Called the Leadership Fellows Program, Bland was one of only five librarians chosen nationally to participate in the year-long fellowship. The other four Fellows chosen for the Leadership Fellows Program represent the University of Rochester Medical Center, the University of Colorado Denver, Yale University, and the University of Florida.

Graduating fellows were recognized at a ceremony and reception held earlier this month in Washington, DC.

The NLM/AAHSL Leadership Fellows Program prepares emerging leaders for academic health sciences library directorships. Fellows participate in a series of in-person leadership training sessions, attendance at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) annual meeting, a year-long fellow/mentor relationship, webinars and discussions on issues related to library leadership, and a two-week site visit to the mentor’s home library.

Bland was nominated to the Leadership Fellows Program by John Curran, MD, professor of Pediatrics, associate vice president for Academic and Faculty Affairs at USF Health, and senior executive associate dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs for the Morsani College of Medicine.
