The USF Health Morsani College of Medicine had a good showing at this year’s interim meeting of the American Medical Association Medical Student Section, held in November in Dallas, TX.
Highlights of the meeting include the following:
William Pearce (MS3) was elected as the future Chair of the American Medical Association – Medical Student Section, and will preside over the 50,000 medical student members across the nation. His term begins in June 2015.
Cameron Paterson (MS3, SELECT) was elected as Region 4 Delegate, and will be representing Florida over the next year.
Dan Myers (MS3, SELECT) was elected as Region 6 Delegate, and will be representing Pennsylvania over the next year.
Bugra Tugertimur (MS2, USF AMA chapter chair) served as the House Coordination Committee Team Leader and facilitated multiple resolution testimonials during the House of Delegates meeting.
Rachael King (MS4) continues her work as MSS Liaison to the Minority Affairs Section, and gave testimony at the House of Delegates on behalf of the entire medical student member minority population.
Phil Zegelbone (MS3, SELECT) as Chair of the national Minority Issues Committee, held an programming session that delved into policy affecting minority populations; he also pushed a resolution (“Increasing the consumption of healthy fresh foods in food desert communities using mobile produce vendor programs”) through the MSS and up to the House of Delegate, which will be further divulged at the AMA Annual Meeting in June.
Kanchi Batra (MS4, SELECT), as Chair of the national Membership and Recruitment Committee, held a programming workshop that addressed active membership and recruitment issues; she also had an active mentoring role in the MSS Leadership School session on the choice and usage of words when counseling patients.
Alex Podlaski (MS2, SELECT) served as delegate for the USF-Tampa campus.
