The USF Health School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences Orthopaedic Residency program was granted candidacy status from the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency & Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE).

The first physical therapy orthopaedic resident, admitted June 30, was Dana Webb, DPT, CSCS, a 2014 graduate of the school’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.

Attaining candidate status helps to ensure the program has done adequate planning and has the resources (e.g., leadership, faculty, mentors, budget, patient/client population, facilities, equipment, curriculum) needed to implement a physical therapy residency or fellowship education program.

Aimee Klein, DPT, DSc, OCS, associate professor and coordinator of post-professional residency education in the School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences, directed the development of the clinical residency program and is shepherding the school through the accreditation process.   USF Health is preparing for an ABPTRFE site visit – the next step in the residency accreditation process — in early January 2016.
