Dr. Rowe, the Leona Hughes Endowed Chair for Nursing Science at the USF College of Nursing, was among only three chosen by NINR Director Patricia A. Grady, RN, PhD. The two others represent a multi-state integrated health system and Colorado’s largest health care provider and Yale University School of Nursing.

The NINR, a component of the National Institutes of Health, is the primary federal agency for the support of nursing research. Its mission is to promote and improve the health of individuals, families, communities, and populations, as well as support and conduct clinical and basic research and research training.

The group’s advisory council, the NACNR, provides recommendations on the direction and support of the research that forms the evidence base for nursing practice. Members of the council are drawn from the scientific and lay communities, embodying a diverse perspective from the fields of nursing, public and health policy, law, and economics.

Dr. Rowe’s own research focuses on improving the lives of those with cognitive impairments and for their caregivers, and aims to help those with dementia stay in their homes longer by taking steps that help reduce falls, nighttime injuries and unattended home exits. She is developing interventions that assist caregivers in the constant vigilance and sleep deprivation required to care for people with cognitive impairment.

Dr. Rowe is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the Gerontological Society of America.
